چکیده

The fermentation kinetics of penicillin production by Penicillium chrysogenum was carried out at 27°C and pH 6.0. Batch and repeated batch fermentations using agar-immobilized cells in fluidized bed bioreactor were studied for their potential application in production of penicillin from lactose, a fermentable sugar. Kinetics of immobilized cell fermentation, showed the penicillin yield of ~0.0155 g/l, with highest penicillin concentration of ~57.09 mg/l and the high reactor productivity of ~23.8 mg/l h. Repeated batch fermentation experiments showed that the immobilized biocatalysts could be recycled effectively for 5 cycles. Penicillin yield was 4-5-fold greater by this method of immobilization, with high productivity as compared to free cells and other immobilization methods.

Penicillin Production in Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor by Penicillium chrysogenum Immobilized in Agar

A previously developed immobilization technique involving agar as matrix is investigated further in penicillin production by P. chrysogenum ATCC 10238 at reactor level. Several modifications were found to decrease the germination lag time, including a higher spore concentration, an increased porosity of gel, and decreasing the mass transfer barrier. This approach enabled the production of penic...

Immobilization of Acidithiobacillus Ferrooxidans on Monolithic Packing for Biooxidation of Ferrous Iron

The oxidation of ferrous iron (Fe2+) in solution using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans has industrial applications exclusively in the regeneration of ferric iron (Fe3+) as an oxidizing agent for the removal of hydrogen sulfide from waste gases, desulfurization of coal, leaching of non-ferrous metallic sulfides and treatment of acid mine drainage. The aim of this investigation was to increase the...

Fructose Production by Inulinase Covalently Immobilized on Sepabeads in Batch and Fluidized Bed Bioreactor

The present work is an experimental study of the performance of a recently designed immobilized enzyme: inulinase from Aspergillus sp. covalently immobilized on Sepabeads. The aim of the work is to test the new biocatalyst in conditions of industrial interest and to assess the feasibility of the process in a fluidized bed bioreactor (FBBR). The catalyst was first tested in a batch reactor at st...

Cell Entrapment of Lactobacillus casei subsp. casei ATCC 39392 for Lactic Acid Production

In this study, lactic acid production by repeated batch fermentation using cell entrapped methods was compared. Barium alginate beads, agar gel and polyurethane foam cubes were employed as carriers to immobilize Lactobacillus casei subsp. casei for the purpose of L (+)-lactic acid production. Increasing concentrations of lactic acid during fermentation were better tolerated by barium alginate e...

Bioethanol production from uncooked raw starch by immobilized surface-engineered yeast cells.

Surface-engineered yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae codisplaying Rhizopus oryzae glucoamylase and Streptococcus bovis alpha-amylase on the cell surface was used for direct production of ethanol from uncooked raw starch. By using 50 g/L cells during batch fermentation, ethanol concentration could reach 53 g/L in 7 days. During repeated batch fermentation, the production of ethanol could be maintai...
